Steelmaster Buildings Customer - Lyles, Danny TN SM House Review

"I decided to build the SteelMaster house because I am now 50 years old, not an antique yet, but I have had some health issues in the past,"

"I wanted a new house with all new 'stuff' in it, so if I have health troubles down the road hopefully I won't have to be working on the house. My present house has steps to climb to get in it. The SteelMaster house is built at ground level so it is far easier to get into, especially if I have mobility troubles later on."

We started building the SteelMaster house about eight months ago-the 'shells' went up in about a month and the shop was completed in two weeks after that,"

"Last week we started on the house inside wood framing, but we are in no hurry to complete the house since I still have a good house to live in."

"It could be called a super insulated house,"

"I put 2" foam board under the concrete floor, sprayed in foam insulation on the inside of the SteelMaster 'shell' , and the end walls are 2" x 6" wood framed with spray foam on the inside and foam board on the outside with a metallic type of house wrap covered with shake looking vinyl siding on both ends. The house has three windows-two in the front wall and one in the rear wall."

Steelmaster Customer - Review

“I guess 27 years of doing all the work outside and dragging a floor jack though the mud will do that,”

“Now firmly in middle age, I wasn't having fun laying in the snow and mud anymore.”

“I've always performed my own vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs, year round, and sometimes in the snow and mud,”

We also rebuilt several vehicles outside; a 60's vintage Manx style dune buggy, several early Broncos, and a Jeep CJ-5.  All these were stripped right to the frame and assembled with fiberglass bodies, new/rebuilt drive trains and suspension.”

“We cleared the site ourselves (previously wooded), and used a local contractor for the foundation,”

“We laid out the radiant floor, and the contractor came back to pour the floor. The building was mostly assembled by just three of us. We used the Industrial Base Connector system which kept it straight, and I believe made the assembly easier. We also ended up using the insulation package offered by SteelMaster (installed by two of us; probably the most difficult part of the entire project). We use a small propane boiler to heat the floor. All in all, we could not be happier with our decision to go this route.”

Steelmaster Building Customer - Laine, John Review

"The building is great for parties and family gatherings because I have installed a bathroom, running water, a refrigerator, fans, and a big screen television,"

"I even have a small deck on the back that has a small swimming pool for my granddaughter.  We spend lots of time outside on the back deck and in front on the hammock and swing.  Living in a rural area with the breeze from the trees and the birds singing outside is paradise. I just need to get some a/c in the SteelMaster building...maybe one day."

"I was introduced to SteelMaster Buildings by a friend who had one he used as his garage,"

"After Hurricane Katrina hit, it was best for me to relocate my residence, and I needed a garage to store my street rods. I purchased a SteelMaster Building and constructed it myself. I was amazed at all the pieces I received to build my building. The DVD was very helpful in my construction of the building as well. It was a huge project but my buddies and I got the job done. We were all amazed! After my building was finished my nephew liked it so much he purchased one for his property."

Steelmaster Buildings Customer - Kyle, Jody Man Cave Review

I saw an ad [for SteelMaster Buildings] in the back of a magazine,”

“I liked the appearance of it, and it looked strong and durable. We knew we wanted a steel building because Louisiana gets a lot of rain, and we didn’t want to deal with rotting wood in the future.”

“The building withstood the storms well,”

“We did not grout in the bottom of the walls as recommended, so during Rita, the bottom of three panels pulled apart from the foundation. But it was easy to reattach the panels, and we were impressed with it overall.”

“When people ask about our building, we always are positive about it and have no regrets,”

“Our son was nine years old when we built the building in 1997. He is now 23 and just ordered one for himself. He helped us build ours, and now we will help him build his almost 14 years later.”

Steelmaster Quonset Customer - Kovash, Jon Review

"…low maintenance, durability, big and unhindered interior space, and a good alternative to cutting old-growth timber,"

"I can’t believe how solid it feels when you walk on top. I installed the building on a slab using SteelMaster’s welded steel base plates, and highly recommend those choices. I rented a large hammer drill for the bolt holes in the concrete. A rolling scaffold was indispensable for installing the arch segments. We worked the outside from extension ladder and rope."

"I feel honored to make the top five - it’s obvious from the pictures by the other entrants that many people are doing creative and well crafted variations of the classic S building. Like the old Airstream campers, it’s a form that will always be with us."

Steelmaster Buildings Customer - Kester Dance Hall, AZ Review

"I've been taking dance classes for years and thought it would be cool to be able to dance at home,"

"I'm sure I will be able to fit 20 people dancing in there once I take out my two cars and hide all the tools in the cabinets. My plan is to host a barn dance a couple times a year unless I meet a "permanent" dance partner."

"I searched the web and SteelMaster Buildings came up more prominently than others,"

"The person who helped me gave me good discounts and was friendly.  He also stored the building for more than six months while I prepared the sight."

"The county insisted on me getting an engineer to design the concrete slab, which set me back six weeks and $800,"

"The day we were able to start building was a beautiful fall day, and we had it up and all the bolts in in five hours. I expect to get the front and back on and the cabinets built in the next few months."

"Ask questions, check out other building in your area, and check county requirements for foundation and slab before you get started,"

Steelmaster carports Customer - Jordan, Bev Review

"My wife and I looked locally at the many offerings of all kinds of carports, and we found nothing that we cared for,"

"We liked the idea of a good sturdy metal buildings, but all that are available around here are the ones you see on every street corner for $600 to $1,000, and they do not appear sturdy and look too cheap to put at the end of our driveway [where we park our two vehicles]."

Steelmaster strong building Customer - Conda Hysell Review

"It is like nothing I have ever seen before,"

We had sliding doors located on each end of the building - they were both ripped off - some of the pieces were left and some were not.  The sky lights were completely gone allowing the rain to get in on the hay. Part of the metal sections were ripped off and hanging in a twisted mess. The building looks almost like it is in three sections now. The one section is still completely in the ground and has little damage. The second section has concrete and metal pulled out of the ground at least two feet - there are even pieces of lumber that have found their way under the concrete foundation. The third section has been pulled out of the ground at least a foot, and there are pieces of lumber and a tailgate from someone's Datsun truck sticking out from under it. It almost looks as if the tornado changed its mind and decided to leave the barn behind. [The SteelMaster] is a very strong building - actually stronger than the framed buildings that we had."

Steelmaster carport Customer - Hyra, Evalynn Review

"The SteelMaster rep suggested that we enclose the ends with wood for looks, and I'm very happy that we did,"

"It was installed by a team recommended by the SteelMaster rep, and a friend did the interior work and wood ends. The barn is 30 x 40. There is a center aisle. On one side I've created a stall and a large hay room. The other side has a stall, a tack/feed room, and a small area for brooms, etc. The far end, crossing the aisle, is a run-in for the horses, who have access to the barn and pastures 24/7. There is a window in each stall as well as on each side of the run-in end. The stalls are a convenience and there in the event that a horse has to be locked in, but the run-in was the more important area for me. We used double folding doors at each end rather than sliders, which would have been much heavier."

"I had the kind of carport that you see all over,"

After the snow and the wind, the carport roof caved in on my truck and tractor, causing about $5,000 damage to the truck. Since the barn building has convinced me that it's not going anywhere, and I have never worried about its structural safety, I decided to buy a SteelMaster carport."

Steelmaster workshop Customer - Hollingsworth, Bob Review

"I wanted a shop all my life to work in and always said that I'll get around to having one ‘tomorrow.' Well, I'm almost 73 years old, and I realize my tomorrow's are starting to run out, so I bought myself a workshop from SteelMaster."

"I figured I could get this building up very quickly without compromising quality and sturdiness."

"I still have a lot of work that needs to be done on the inside, but it looks great, and people comment on it all the time. I'm impressed with the building, with its strength, and the way it is designed."

Steelmaster Batting Dome Customer - Hodges Review

"We used it as a batting dome for a couple of years, but it wasn't tall enough, and it had been torn up pretty good by hurricanes,"

I decided it was time to go ahead and tear it down and started researching on the Internet how I could get a building with the height I needed it to be that could also withstand any hurricanes that hit our area."

"I don't have a background in construction, but I'm kind of a handyman and am able to fix a lot around the house,"

"That was the real selling point with SteelMaster - the fact that I could put it up myself. I talked back and forth with a representative from SteelMaster in terms of the width and length I wanted, and he worked it out so that we got the height that we needed. Ultimately we got the dimensions that I felt suited me, and he was confident in it structurally based on the company's experience in producing batting domes."

"If I ran into a speed bump, it was as simple as a telephone call or email to their technical support, and I had the answer right away."

"We put up the first metal the 14th of November, and we were batting in the cage the first week of January,"

"This past summer, we had their softball team over once or twice a week to get their practice in and stay out of the heat. I am just extremely happy with it. The building looks good, and more importantly, it's a wonderful place for my daughters and me to spend quality time together."

Steelmaster Caport Customer - Hicks, Jack Review

"I also liked the fact that the company I chose to work with uses a Galvalume Plus coating."

"I'm very satisfied with the carport overall,"

The only change I would recommend is to make the carport about one foot longer. I have a full sized, extended cab pickup truck that is just short of being fully covered."

Steelmaster Buildings Customer -Hendrick, Danny Review

"I was fortunate to talk with David B. Adams, who at that time was the director of marketing with SteelMaster Buildings, and after speaking with him, I was convinced that this was the building that I needed because it would fit my needs from a quality and durability standpoint,"

"He was very informative from my first conversation with him, and we became very good friends."

"I appreciate that the ease of which I have been able to assemble and construct my buildings as well as their durability, quality, and the fact that they blend very well into my farm layout and the landscape,"

"As a result, I have helped SteelMaster sell numerous buildings in this area of Georgia. The picture that is shown in the Georgia section of the SteelMaster website shows the back side of my three buildings. I am proud of my buildings, and I appreciate them being a part of the company’s website."

Steelmaster Metal Building Customer - Hankanson, Bill Review

"We have no posts interfering with our interior space, except for the ones we installed,"

"I like the sound of rain on the metal roof. I like the efficiency of design and style. I like the fact that it is different from most other approaches to home design and building. I like the cost efficiency."

"Once our metal building was up, I was amazed at how much rainwater could be captured!"

"One square foot of rain, 1-inch deep, provides .625 gallons of water. That might not sound like much by itself, but it translates to 40,000 gallons of water per year that falls on our building. I estimate that using the cistern saved us about $1,500 versus drilling a deep well."

"This is a pay-as-you-go project, and we’ve kept costs to a minimum,"

"We explore all options before spending. We will have no debt related to the farmstead, and expect to generate some income from our labors through the sale of our excess crops, shiitake mushrooms, and honey."

"Most people say they think it is "really cool"

Steelmaster Carport Customer - Gill, Jim and Gayle Review

"We have wanted to cover our 20’ x 20’ concrete patio since the first year it was put in because it is on the south side of our home, and it is very hot,"

"We tried using one of those gazebos that you can buy at places like Kmart, but our wind just tore it apart. So this year we decided to find something that was more stable and maintenance free."

"They delivered the wrong carport, didn’t send all of the right pieces, and the colors of the panels were wrong,"

"My husband told them to come and pick up what was here and that we would find a different company to deal with."

"We have always enjoyed our patio before, but in the summer it was too hot to sit out and enjoy it,"

"After we built the cover in June, we used our patio to relax and enjoy the outdoors every evening on the weekdays and a lot during the days on the weekends - sometimes we ate supper out there. Our favorite things about our SteelMaster patio cover is that it is maintenance free and holds up to the wind. We would definitely buy another one if needed."

SteelMaster buildings Customer - Furst, Bobby, Bldg Complex Review

"I like the industrial look of them, and I also love their shape,"

“I met with some local artists who own SteelMaster buildings before I decided to buy from the company, and I knew then it was what I wanted."

“The acoustics were phenomenal, so now that building is used as a performance arts space as well,"

“It was an added benefit I didn’t see coming."
I have myself a little compound now, and I couldn’t be happier with the way things have turned out - these buildings are virtually maintenance free and will outlive me, that’s for sure,"

“When I was a kid, I enjoyed playing with erector sets and putting the pieces together to building something unique every time. Putting these buildings together is very similar to that, just on a bigger scale. I am all about creating things with form and function, and SteelMaster buildings definitely fit the bill."

Steelmaster Steel Building Customer - Fuller Nursery Blueberry Farm Review

"We always get a lot of questions on our building, and customers love the cool breeze running through when we have the front and back doors open,"

"It opens up to all the plants in the greenhouse and makes the space seem so much larger."

We got our first steel building in 2005 in Florida after three hurricanes destroyed our garage,"

"As do-it-yourself type of people, we found them easy to put together, and a great project. When we moved to central Kentucky, we put up another one for our organic blueberry farm."

"Our building has a greenhouse on the south facing wall to take advantage of solar gain in the winter,"

"The 10 X 30 concrete porch floor in the greenhouse works as a bio-mass to hold the heat. We placed a rain gutter on one side to collect rain water and on the other side we have a plant bed. Inside, we added a second story inside - the downstairs works as a sales room and workshop, and the upstairs works as storage and an office. When the building is done, it will have a grey water system, composting toilet, tank less hot water heaters, solar panels, and possibly a windmill."

Steelmaster Aircraft Customer - Ferrara, Anthony Review

"A wind storm destroyed the cover and damaged the aircraft,"

"Too much bird poop, paint overspray, and then the wind damage convinced me that I needed additional protection."

"I also wanted the option to be able to move the building outside and still have the plane protected."
"It’s not hard or labor intensive-there are just many bolts,"

"So far it looks good and everyone around says that it was the right thing to do.  In fact, there are a few others that are looking at putting up their own. For the price, delivered to Hawaii, it was a great deal."

Steelmaster Carport Customer - Drinkwater Review

"It's just so beautiful,"

"We've gotten so many compliments from everyone who sees it."

"Becky and I were talking about purchasing a carport to park our new car under, and we agreed that we didn't want to have to look at or deal with a poorly constructed, ugly, box-shaped thing sitting in our driveway,"

"We live on more than two acres of land that looks like a beautiful park, and we didn't want to build a garage or any structure that would take away from that park-like environment-we wanted it to remain open."

"One day we were on the Internet, and we happened upon SteelMaster Buildings,"

"After researching their product and talking to a few folks who work there, we knew we found what we were looking for."

"Aesthetically, the arch of the roof looks really cool to us,"

"Plus I love the quality of it. It is a powerful, really strongly built structure. I'm convinced that if we were hit with a hurricane, the house would blow away, but the carport would stay right where it is."

"When you drive up to it, it's so beautiful, and everyone remarks about that."

Steelmaster Carport Customer - Downey, Edward, IL Review

“I searched the Internet to find a good looking carport that would be proper outside our 1898 Victorian house, which is a former Catholic rectory,"

“The supports sit on 4 feet of concrete beneath the columns, and the weight of it (metal) was just beyond me without help,"

“I'll be 70 this year, and I still work full time.  I just did not have the equipment or the time to do it myself. It took about a week for the people I hired to put up.  I could have done it if I did not work."

“It is well designed, sturdy, and just plain looks good.  It looks like it belongs where we put it."

Steelmaster Steel Building Customer -Davis, John Review

"I used the steel building to store two cars and a large collection of toys,"

"The two cars were not damaged at all, but I did lose some of my toy collection due to the rain water that fell inside once the trees hit the building. But considering the size of the trees, I should have lost everything."

"SteelMaster buildings are great,"

"They are strong, nice looking, easy to assemble, and if you want to add on to it, that is easy to do as well.  I can’t believe how the building absorbed the weight of those trees and that the cars were not damaged at all. I am impressed."

Steelmaster Building Customer - Davidson, George, NJ Review

"I appreciated the strength of the building as well as the fact that I could put it together myself, but the true selling point was the arch design,"

"I am going to use the SteelMaster building as a garage for a few years, but then I am going to take it down and sell it to someone when I don’t need it anymore,"

"The SteelMaster building is a temporary solution for me as I want to make sure all of my cars are protected indoors, but eventually, I am going to build a house on that concrete slab."

Steelmaster Steel Building Customer - Curtiss, Michael Review

"In winters past it would take us an hour or so just to dig the car out of the snow and then clean it off and warm it up—that added up to a lot of outside time in the cold weather,"

"We are in our 60’s now so we decided it was time to make our life a little easier."

"At that time the only steel building that came up in our area was SteelMaster’s, so that is the company we bought from."

"After we had the foundation poured, we had four of our dear friends help us do the job of erecting the building,"

"My wife and I put the panels together on the ground, so they were ready when we got the crew in. It was like an old time barn raising, but the good thing is it only took about four actual days of work to raise the whole thing. Those who lived in the community couldn’t believe how quickly it went up, so many had to drive by daily to see the progress."

Steelmaster Carport Customer - Kerry Martin Review

"My family and I installed the carport patio ourselves, which included my 81-year-old dad, my 49-year-old wife, my 14-year-old son, and me. We had it up in about two days, which was great."

"It provides good protection from the sun in the summer and for rainy days,"

"I can say the structure is nice looking, sturdy, and very easy to install. I would recommend this type of Steelmaster structure to anyone to just hang out under or to protect their car or boat from the weather."

Steelmaster pre-fabricated steel building Customer - Cummings, Mike Review

"We were very satisfied with the high quality of our pre-fabricated steel building,"

"Unfortunately we had to tear it down years later because we needed the property it was sitting on to expand the main building of the business. I was sad to see it go because it still looked perfectly new."

"I was initially going to put up a wood building, but while I was looking around on the Internet for one, I came across SteelMaster Buildings and remembered the building dad and I built years ago,"

"I remembered how to do it from putting together the first one with my father, so we got it up in a short amount of time. I also own a front end loader which made the job a lot easier,"

"It turns out that there was plenty of space left over under the carport so that I am able to fit most of my truck underneath it as well. If people are looking for an extremely strong carport that they can build themselves, then this is the one to get."

Steelmaster Garage Customer - Chelton, Dean Review

"I always keep my car parked in my garage, so it made sense to do the same for the travel trailer,"

"I just wasn’t comfortable keeping it outside anymore."

"I am tired of having to replace the roofs every so often, paint the siding, and a whole host of other things that have to happen to keep the buildings looking good,"

. "Right away I knew I had found my solution-the style was there, but more importantly, a SteelMaster building doesn’t require any maintenance."

"The people I spoke with at SteelMaster-from the receptionist to the salesperson to the engineer-they were all very well informed and provided terrific customer service,"

"From the building itself to the people at SteelMaster, I couldn’t be more pleased at how everything turned out. They are a top-notch company with a top-notch product."

Steelmaster Goat Sheds Customer - Cardone, Sandy Review

-Cardone, Sandy, Goat Sheds
"In 2007, we began to prepare our yard to keep [the horse and mule] at home,"

We did this slowly as we could afford it, avoiding any debt in the process.  By the summer of 2009, I could wait no more!"

"I stumbled upon the SteelMaster website doing a Google search for Quonset Huts,"

"I really liked the shape, size, and ease of construction that the buildings offered.  I liked the fact that the side walls of the building are straight, with the round top, which allows for the most room inside for the horses. I liked the company’s industrial foundation-it made the construction a breeze! The cost also sold me!  I had done a lot of research on how to create the best shelter for the animals.  The SteelMaster building had the most to offer for the amount spent!"

"The assembly only took three days,"

"I wanted to keep the animals away from the metal walls, so I wanted a wood lining in the shelter.  We had our trees that had been cut down to clear the corral area milled into lumber.  The builder used Maple boards to build the kick walls, which took one day. We used treated wood to add the short wall in front so that a gate would fit the opening and be able to swing into the building out of the way.  This was another day's work.  So in total the process took about three weeks to prepare the foundation, assemble the SteelMaster building and add the custom wood liner/gate."

"Overall, I am very happy with my SteelMaster building,"

"The product was as nice in person as it was in the photos online.  My builder referred to the building as "a giant erector set" and had a ball putting it together.  The animals are happy to be home, and they have the perfect shelter to protect them from the Michigan heat in the summer and brutal winter weather."

Steelmaster Customer - Brugman TX Hurricane Bldg Review

"My current elevation is approximately 8 feet above sea level, and our home revealed  5" of standing water,"

"I along with a close friend and my brother in law ripped out the entire contents of my home from the bottom to 8’-the only thing left was sheet rock on the ceilings, plumbing in the walls, and soaked studs."

"The building was a life saver,"

"Thankfully it was coated with Galvalume or it would be a complete rust bucket."

"If only those fish could talk!"

Steelmaster Shed Customer - Brown, Aubrey, Hurricane Shed Review

"My SteelMaster shed can withstand 140 mph winds, which is more than I can say about my house,"

"Before each storm hit, I stocked the motor home with bottled water and food, gassed up the tank, made sure the generator was working, and then my wife and 82-year-old mother and I hunkered down until the hurricanes passed."

"My wife and I travel a lot in our 32-foot motor home from craft show to craft show, so I bought the shed to house it in and keep it out of the sun during the off season,"

"I also store all of my welders and cutting torch and tools for mechanical and farm repair in the shed. Anytime the weather is too cold or raining, I just back the motor home out, pull in what needs to be repaired, and fix it. When it is real cold, I lower the 12 by 12 door and use a patio heater to work in comfort."

Steelmaster Quonset hut Customer - Bottcher, Steel Cave Review

"It looks like a military Quonset hut and is the perfect shape for maximum freedom of overhead space,"

"When I get too old for the gym, it will become a carport."

"I chose to buy a SteelMaster building because it met my three main criteria: I needed the arch height, which is perfect for overhead work; I wanted something that wouldn’t mold, bend, rot, or require upkeep; and the SteelMaster building is less expensive than any wood structure of its size."

"My father and I put it together,"

"We are very strong men; three to four people would have been ideal, but it can be done by two with average "handy-man" ability. I leveled the foundation first, erected it using common sense, spread stone mulch and then topped it off with rubber flooring. By staking the foundation so that the structure can push against it, I made up for the lack of a proper, solid foundation. And, if I want to expand, I would just order additional pieces and add them on."

The price was worth the space, and it is better than shingled structures. It is strong-I walk on top of it. It withstands New England weather, and animals can't degrade it. The coating prevents rust and scrapes-I will die of old age before the structure shows wear. It doesn't require insulation, and it is almost soundproof."

Steel Master Customer - Beau Andrepont, Hurricane Feedback

"I bought the building and constructed it with two helpers and a tractor with a front end loader,”

"I originally just poured concrete footings and then later added concrete in the middle. I only had half of the arches up when Hurricane Gustav hit us.”

The building came out with minimal damage and that was only due to the fact that the end angles were not attached to one side so the edge of the last arch was free to flap in the wind,”

"This caused a small hole in that arch, but that is it. Now that the building is complete and end walls are up I believe it is the strongest building on the property.”

SteelMaster Buildings Customer - Abadie, Clarence Review

"I bought a helicopter kit and built a rotary wing gyrocopter, but I soon found out that it was too difficult to fly it out of my yard.”

"I sold it and then built a Helicycle instead. I wanted to move it out of my garage, and that is when I bought my SteelMaster building. I wanted something durable and something easy to put up. SteelMaster was it.”

"Out of all the places I have been, I'm more than content to just fly around here for fun,”

"I'm comfortable here—Louisiana is where I belong.”
